Why Use Fathom Analytics

There are a lot of reasons to love Fathom Analytics — but there are 4 reasons that make it a no-brainer alternative to Google Analytics, especially if you’re running a web design agency or have a freelance business.

Privacy First

Have you ever wondered why Google Analytics, one of the most comprehensive and powerful pieces of software on the internet, is free? It’s actually simple: the data Google collects through analytics (about you and everyone who visits your website) is simply more valuable than any kind of money they could charge for it.

You are the product.

But Fathom Analytics is different. Fathom sells software — not data. Their privacy-first approach means that not only will your analytics software be compliant with major privacy laws (more on that in a moment), you’ll be collecting the valuable traffic data you need without encroaching on anyone’s private information.

The world is wising up to what big tech companies have been doing for decades, and consumers are getting more conscious of what kind of data is being shared.

Fathom is at the forefront of this movement by providing a privacy-first alternative to one of the most invasive tracking codes ever deployed.

Easy-to-Understand Data

Be honest — of the hundreds of features and reports in Google Analytics, how many do you really use (or even understand!)? If you’re like most web developers, it’s a small fraction.

I’ve spent years making 3, 4, or 5 clicks just to see simple data-points about the traffic to my website. In fact, I’ve largely ignored analytics in a lot of cases because digging through those reports is too complicated.

So complicated, in fact, there is an entire eco-system of products you can buy to present analytics data to you in a more simple fashion.

But that’s not the case with Fathom Analytics.

What you get is a simple, straightforward, single-page dashboard that shows you all of the key metrics about your website visitors without having to create complex reports, filters, and make multiple clicks.

Want to see for yourself? Check out our public dashboard (which is identical to what you get inside your account) for our Job Board directory: https://app.usefathom.com/share/qhrdqimz/the+admin+bar+job+board.

If you want to learn more about how to use Fathom Analytics, you can read this blog post which will show you the most important data points you can monitor.

GDPR Compliant

In 2022, a court decided that Google Analytics violates the European GDPR privacy law. This means if you’re using Google Analytics you may be doing so illegally.

Granted, I’m no lawyer — and my guess is you aren’t either — but when it comes to my clients, I don’t want to put them (or my agency) in jeopardy with the possibility of facing thousands of dollars in fines.

Fathom helps put my mind at ease knowing that they are 100% GDPR compliant.

They do this by routing all traffic through European servers, and Fathom itself is not based in the United States (where privacy laws are much more relaxed than the rest of the modern world).

Besides GDPR, Fathom is also compliant with CCPA, ePrivacy, and PECR.

By having a privacy-first mindset, you can sleep easy knowing that Fathom won’t put you in a position to violate privacy laws — even as new ones are introduced around the world.

See ALL of Your Visitors (not just half)

Did you realize that around 50% of your visitors aren’t even being tracked with Google Analytics? This whole time you’ve only been seeing half of your data! ????

This is all due to how the Google Analytics script and how adblockers work.

Adblockers, which are used by about half of website visitors, actually block the Google Analytics script. So anyone using Google Analytics isn’t even getting all of their visits!

Fathom’s script works differently, and allows you to see all of your traffic — without compromising anyone’s privacy.

You’ll notice an immediate difference in your numbers, and have a much easier time making data-driven decisions by getting the full picture.

Additional Benefits

There are a few more things worth noting without going into great detail:

  • The Fathom Analytics tracking code is much better for performance metrics (like Core Web Vitals) than Google’s script. I’m able to get 100% scores using Fathom, and that’s never been the case with Google.
  • Fathom comes with built-in Uptime Monitoring, which checks your website every 30-seconds. You might already be paying for uptime monitoring or using a free tool that doesn’t check as frequently.
  • Fathom delivers simple, yet beautiful email reports every week or every month (if you request them). These are great for your clients and give them a brief overview of their website’s traffic.
  • The Fathom plugin for WordPress allows you to view your website analytics from right within the backend of your website so you never have to leave your website to see how it’s doing.
  • Setting up Fathom on your website takes about 1 minute. Yes, it’s that quick and easy (especially if you use the Fathom plugin).
  • You likely won’t need cookie banners on your website since you’re no longer tracking personal information from your visitors. I hate those cookie banners!

Learn More About Fathom Analytics

With our $10 discount, your first month of Fathom Analytics is just $4 — so you’ve got almost nothing to lose in trying Fathom for a month and seeing how it works.

But if you want to know a little more, I’ve produced lots of content that dives deep into what makes Fathom a great solution.

Founders Interview

I interviewed the co-founders of Fathom Analytics, Paul Jarvis and Jack Ellis, not long after the decision come down stating that Google was in violation of GDPR.

Hearing their story and understanding why they started Fathom was a great insight into the people behind the company.

Whenever possible, I love supporting entrepreneurs like them who have a mission beyond the money to make the internet a better place.

Why I Switched to Fathom

When it comes to running and agency, I wanted to make sure my clients understood why I was moving away from the worlds most popular analytics solution to more of an unknown.

And it turns out the argument is a pretty simple one (much like you’ve read in this post).

You can read my article on why I switched to Fathom to get some inspiration on how to explain this to your clients (who might not get all the technical aspects).

How to Inform Your Clients Your Switching to Fathom

Here at The Admin Bar, we put together 2 email scripts you can take and use (for free) to help explain to your clients (both present and past) about your move to Fathom.

Get the email scripts here.

Using these scripts is a simple way to get your clients on board with the move by pointing out some of the key benefits to Fathom Analytics.

After informing and moving over 40 clients myself, I didn’t have any pushback after using these scripts — and in fact, I actually had many customers thanking me for looking out for them and their best interests.

Save $10 on Fathom Analytics

Having been with Fathom for almost a year now, I can confidently say it’s been a great move.

Their simple, and easy-to-understand dashboard has made diving into my analytics a more enjoyable experience, I’m collecting data on almost double the number of visits, and I can do all this with the peace of mind that it’s done in a privacy-first, ethical way.

Heck, it’s even helped me make a little extra recurring revenue too!

By charging my clients just $5 a month, I’ve become profitable on Fathom’s $14/mo plan with just 3 clients — and with 40+ clients on board I have an entirely new revenue stream!

Using our link will get you $10 off your first month, which is the best (and only!) discount Fathom offers. So if you’re curious to give it a spin, consider using our link and saving yourself a little money!
